5th grade classes have been busy with two labor intensive, but beautiful projects: tessellations, and weaving. Here is a small sampling!
Observational Drawing of Insects
Second Grade learned about drawing from observation. We looked at photographs of various insects.
Illinois based entomologist and insect photographer Alex Wild took the photos that we used. Check out this link to his photography HERE! We discussed basic parts, including the head, thorax, abdomen and antennae. We looked carefully at the highlights, shadows, and cast shadows. We reviewed the basics of observational and contour line drawing, and drew our insects slowly and carefully. Then we used watercolor paint to add color.
